Cafewaala

Cafewaala — the cafe person

About Cafewaala

Cafewaala is a cafe discovery platform. We help you find cafes worth stopping for — starting with the hill towns of India, where a good cafe can make the whole day.

Why it exists

Mountain towns have hundreds of cafes, and most lists online are either paid placements or a decade out of date. We wanted one place with honest picks, real menus and hours that were actually checked.

A waala is the person who knows — the chai-waala, the dhaba-waala. Cafewaala aims to be that person for cafes.

How cafes are selected

  • We visit every cafe we list, and we film most of them.
  • We pay for what we eat. Listings are never sold.
  • Readers and owners can tell us about a cafe; we look into every suggestion, and nothing goes onto the site before we've visited.
  • Facts (hours, menus, prices) carry a source and a last-verified date.

How we score

The Cafewaala score (out of 10) is an editorial judgement, not an average of reviews. It weighs the dimensions below by what the cafe is trying to be — a coffee bar isn't marked down for having no view.

Coffee & drinks
Is the coffee (or chai) made with care? We taste, not just photograph.
Food
Freshness, a clear point of view, and at least one thing worth ordering again.
Ambience & view
Light, seating, sound, and whether the setting earns the stop.
Service & value
Fair prices for what you get, and staff who make you want to stay.
Comfort & workability
Seats, warmth, Wi-Fi and sockets — scored only where they matter.

Editorial content and scores belong to Cafewaala. In future, cafe owners will be able to update factual information (hours, menus, photos) — never scores or reviews.

What's next

We're starting in Himachal Pradesh, then other mountain regions, then cities. The plan is simple: cover each place properly before moving on.
